Bret and the accident

       Bret left for a couple day work thing he had to go to. Then Sadie and Mariah left for their trip. Shortly after I dropped the girls off at the train station I got a call from Bret. He first starts talking with small talk kind of and then he tells me he was in an accident but is ok. As he relayed to me what happened and that he was currently riding in an ambulance, his voice was really shaky and he repeated a lot of things over and over. One was that a girl with the last name Court was driving and another was that he wished he was the one driving. Along with some other things he repeated. Bret was the passenger and the girl driving is not a confident driver in the first place. It is normal to have the officer sit in the passenger seat and someone else drives. Bret said he wanted to drive that morning but Court was feeling confident and said she wanted to drive so Bret let her. They were following another vehicle of soldiers. Court just kept following that car and failed to yield while merging onto a  road. A german semi (smaller than an american semi but still bigger than a car) hit them on the drivers side. Court got the brunt of it all with a hurt collar bone, face, concussion, cuts and bruises. Bret was next with a concussion and some bruises and scratches. They put in one stitch next to his eye. The people in the back had small concussions from it but no cuts or scratches. Bret said he was glad he could speak german when help came. He also said he remembers telling Court to stop just before getting hit and then waking up in a little bit of a shock. He saw blood dripping from his head onto his lap. Then did a quick check of the rest of his body, then checked on Court. Everyone in the back got out of the car and Bret stayed with Court trying to talk to her and calm her as she was going in and out of consciousness. When the paramedics arrived he got out and they got Cort out. In the end everyone is fine and has now healed from it. Because of the concussion and some hurt knees Bret was not able to run his two races. It was a little scary but so glad everyone is ok.

Hanging out in the Hospital. You can't see it in this picture but he had some big cuts on the outside of his left knee and some bruises on the insides of his knees. On his right shoulder you can kind of see his shirt ripped from the seatbelt.

This was after a day or so. The bruise on his shoulder is from the seatbelt. He probably would have been hurt more had he not been wearing his seatbelt.
