Berlin & Dresden

While Sadie was here we took a long weekend trip to see Berlin and Dresden. We went without the kids because I didn't think they would care to see it and we have awesome friends that we trade off watching each others kids. In Berlin we saw all the WWII memorials. It was really interesting and so crazy what a lot of people went through during that time.  Especially the people living on that street where they put the wall up. After Berlin we went to Dresden which is a beautiful old city. The old buildings there are my favorite. We spent the day walking around and touring inside churches and cathedrals. I only have 2 pictures from there because of our lost picture problem. I have others of dresden from when we went at the beginning of the year on another post though. It was a good quick trip.
Part of the inner wall.
Some of the outer wall.

Polls marking where the outer wall was.

Bret pondering life, or just waiting while Sadie and I read about some of the families that jumped out windows to get to the other side of the wall. His head was also starting to feel a little fuzzy and tired from trying to start running again after the accident.

Can you see the American flag? We were waiting to cross the street to see the Jewish memorial and realised we were standing outside the American embassy.

The memorial. I thought there would be names and info on these rectangle pieces but it is just a cool thing an artist put together. They are different height rectangles on uneven ground. You can go underneath to the Jewish memorial museum. Which we ended up not doing.

This is at Check Point Charlie. You could pay to get a picture with an "American soldier". I decided to take a picture of a real American soldier.

The east gallery wall.

It was cool to see all the paintings on this section of the wall.

This was outside our Hostel in Dresen. They had music going, a food truck, and lots of alcohol...

The Frauenkirche in Dresden. Pres. Uchtdorf talks about it in one of his conference talks.  It is a beautiful building. It went down in WWII and then was just left in rubble for a while. They then decided to rebuild it and use some of the old pieces.
