Cooper is 5

Cooper turned 5 on Nov 2nd! He is a pretty good kid. Although he has the torturous older brother role down pat. He started in a preschool this year and loves it. He can't wait to start kindergarten next year. However I am glad he is on the "older" end of the kids in school so I can have him at home a little longer. His preschool is only 2 days a week but I am having a lot more anxieties about him being in school then I thought. Kindergarten here is all day 5 days and that just seems so long. I think he will do ok though. He is getting better at reading and spelling. I love watching him try to figure out how to spell things. The English language is rough though and his spelling is usually wrong but sometimes I don't have the heart to tell him its not right. For example he was writing and he runs over and says look I spelled 'mommy' but it was spelled 'mome' and then he tried to sound out Charise, which is hard for anyone to spell, he came up with 'seres'. Another day he said, I can spell 'nope' and spelled it 'nop' so I explained that there is an 'e' also. Then I said how about 'yup' he spelled it 'yep' which works too i guess.  I then gave him 'cat' he did 'kat', I did one more word, I don't remember what it was, but there was another english craziness to it...I was striking out trying to give him easy words. We keep working on it though. We got an easy reader book from the library and he does good with that. Sometimes he gets lazy and just says he doesn't know and wants me to read it but he can do it and usually I can get him to read it.

For his birthday he said he wanted to have friends over and play dress up super heros. Bret was gone at a Vet conference so I didn't want to do a full out b-day party. Cooper was cool with just inviting a few friends over to play for a bit. They had a lot of fun jumping on the tramp and running through the little obstacle course I put together. Cooper had a good list of people he wanted over for his b-day so that night we had a few families over for cake and ice cream. He had a pretty good day. I love this kid!!!

Opening one of his gifts when he first woke up.

Lined up to do the obstacle course.

I love that we live in New Mexico and eating a popsicle outside on Nov. 2nd is not a big deal.

What a great idea for a birthday "party" just have the boys dress up, run around the house, jump on the trampoline. You are smart. As if kids really care about cutesy decorations and incredible desserts or something. I've never done a birthday party, so I wouldn't know, but it seems to be a lot of work. I think you are smart for doing it the easy way- but the way boys would have a lot of fun. Cooper is so cute. I like his shirt there :) It's hard to believe our kids are five! Time flies-- sort of--. :)
