Bret was gone for a couple weeks at the end of January doing training for his Expert Field Medical Badge (EFMB). It was something that wasn't required but he wanted to do. He kept telling me that not everyone passes and gets the badge. I gave him a lot of crap about how he needs to pass so he didn't have to do the whole course again. He did good and got the badge but what I didn't realize was how hard it really was to get this badge. At the beginning of the training there were 166 people, by the end only 27 of them passed. On top of that, it was the 2nd or more attempt for most of those 27. Bret had fun doing all the crazy things they did like army crawling in the sand while getting "shot at", living off of MRE's, sleeping in a tent on a cot, disassembling and reassembly a 9 mm and M16, day and night land navigation, taking care of "wounded" soldiers, and other army tasks/skills ending with a 12 mile ruck in under 3 hours (full vest, ruck sack 35+ lbs, helmet, and rifle). We went to his graduation ceremony where I got to pin on his badge.
