Belgium, Brugge (Bruges)

We planned a trip to Belgium for Easter weekend. About 5 days before our trip the bombings in Brussels happened. There was a ban for military people to go to Belgium just for a day and then another couple weeks ban on Brussels. So Bret and I had to make a decision on wether we were going to still go or not. We were planning on 3 nights in Belgium. The last night being in Brussels. We knew we couldn't stay in Brussels because of the ban but we could still go to Westende and see Bruges like we were planning. We decided to still go and be out the $100 for the hotel in Brussels. We were staying in a small town and not taking any public transportation and felt good about still going. We have plans in the future to still see Brussels.
Onto our trip. We left on a holiday weekend which is a big mistake. Everyone is traveling so the 6 hour drive there took us 10 because of all the traffic. Luckily we have awesome traveling kids. They did ask a lot "when are we going to be there" but other than that they were great. We got to our hotel some what late but we wanted to still go and get real food especially after being in the car that long and eating sandwiches and snacks. The kids didn't sleep at all in the car so they were so tired and all 3 fell asleep sitting there at the restaurant. It was probably about 9:00/9:30. We were so surprised at how many little kids were in the restaurant at that time of night.
The next morning we headed to Bruges! We went to the market there and found ourselves some super yummy Belgium Waffles! We had fun exploring the city center and going through the Historium. The Historium is a building you walk through and they tell a little story as to what life might have been like in the 1400s.  It was pretty cool and the kids liked it also. We then headed to the Fry Museum. Supposedly Fry's (French fry for Americans) started in Belgium. It was a very interesting but fun museum. They gave the kids stickers and a paper to work on as we went through the museum. They had to put the sticker in the right places. At the end of walking through if they finished and it was correct they received a prize. We enjoyed exploring Brugge!

After many hours in the car things like this started happing.
Waiting for some food.

After eating...they were out!

Ever wonder why we (Americans) call them French Fries...here you go.

Just making some Fries.

The prize for finishing the paper was playing this claw game until you grabbed something.

Cooper pointing at the yellow flag with the lion like thing on it. My brother Zed served his mission here and has this flag in his house. The kids recognised it.
